Σταφύλια: από τους αμπελώνες στο Freestone (51% αμπελώνας Quarter Moon και 49% αμπελώνας Pastorale), στη Sonoma Coast

Παλαίωση / Cooperage: 13 μήνες σε 34% νέα και 66% δρύινα γαλλικά βαρέλια δύο ετών.

Οινοποίηση: Τα σταφύλια συλλέχθηκαν και διαχωρίστηκαν πριν οδηγηθούν στη δεξαμενή για μια μακρά φυσική ζύμωση, χρησιμοποιώντας συνολικά κατά μέσο όρο 20% ολόκληρα τσαμπιά στο τελικό χαρμάνι. Οι τακτικές διαβροχές οδήγησαν σε ένα δομημένο κρασί με μεταξένια υφή και έναν χαρακτηριστικό χαρακτήρα Freestone spice που επικρατεί σε αυτή την περιοχή της δυτικής ακτής Sonoma.

Σημειώσεις του οινολόγου: Το Pinot Noir 2017 ανοίγει με μαρμελάδες κόκκινων φρούτων και φρεσκοκομμένες φράουλες, ακολουθούμενες από πικάντικες νότες κερασιού, βατόμουρου και καψαλισμένων μπαχαρικών. Ένα ισορροπημένο κρασί που τελειώνει με λευκό πιπέρι και νύξεις φλούδας μανταρινιού.

Χρονιά: Η καλλιεργητική περίοδος του 2017 στην ακτή Sonoma είχε χειμερινές βροχοπτώσεις-ρεκόρ, οι οποίες βοήθησαν στην ανεφοδιασμό των υπόγειων υδάτων και των αμπελιών. Το μέτριο ξεκίνημα της σεζόν βοήθησε τα αμπέλια να επιστρέψουν σε μια πιο παραδοσιακή περίοδο έκπτυξης των οφθαλμών στα μέσα Μαρτίου, ακολουθούμενη από μια κανονική περίοδο άνθησης και καλοκαιρινή καλλιεργητική περίοδο. Συνολικά, το 2017 ήταν θερμό λόγω των καλοκαιρινών θερμών ημερών και μιας επιταχυνόμενης ωρίμανσης λίγο πριν από τον τρύγο. Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, it has a very open, gregarious nose of dried rose petals, potpourri, tree bark, red licorice and ripe red and black fruits with pretty spicy notes of cinnamon stick and clove. Light to medium-bodied, it has good layers of spicy, perfumed fruit in the mouth, with soft, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing long and spicy. (Apr. 2019)

Leading off the Pinot Noirs, the 2017 Pinot Noir Freestone Vineyards comes from a handful of sites and spent 13 months in one-third new French oak. Its ruby hue is followed by a beautiful bouquet of cranberries, caramelized cherries, orange rind, and spicy aromas and flavors. It's nicely textured, balanced, has good acidity, and a great finish. The 2017 Pinot Noir Freestone Vineyards is soft, supple and super-expressive. It offers dark cherry, plum, spice, leather and menthol on the nose, while bright red cherry, rose petal, mint and blood orange flavors are beautifully layered.
