Bin 138 was first created by the great winemaker Max Schubert, and it was this that established Penfolds' relationship with red wine lovers. It was inspired by the wines of the Southern Rhône, where Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre are the key blend for creating full-bodied wines with rich and heady aromas.
Varietal composition: 68% Shiraz, 23% Grenache and 9% Mataro
Vineyard: Each year the grapes for Bin 138 are sourced from old vineyards in the Barossa Valley (some of which are over 100 years old)
Vinification: Classic red vinification and maturation for 12 to 15 months in aged oak barrels.
Characteristics: Exuberant bouquet of blackberries, liquorice, black candied fruits. Medium to full body with round tannins well integrated and a long finish of white chocolate and mocha.
Enjoy at 16°C.
Ageing: until 2030
