Product description

Its origin: The first orange wines were made 4,500 years ago in Georgia, where traditionally the grapes were not pressed before fermentation began.

Orange wine is the origin of wine, which is often overlooked.

Indeed, the first wines, which were probably orange wine, were produced in the Caucasus (the region between Europe and Asia, between the Black and Caspian Seas), more than 8000 years ago.

It is in Georgia, the cradle of viticulture, that the oldest traces of wine-making can be found. The Georgian people macerated and aged white wines in buried amphorae.

This little historical point allows us to dispel a common misconception: it was neither the Romans nor the Greeks who invented wine.

The creation: To make an orange wine, the grapes are macerated with all their solid parts (seeds, skin, stalk). The components of the skin and stalk release pigments and tannins, which give the wine its distinctive orange colour with a golden glow. The sweet bitterness that emerges from this whole bunch maceration is characteristic of orange wines.

Orange Gold pays tribute to the first orange wines of Georgia 4500 years ago.

Gérard Bertrand wants to create a new profile of fresh orange wines. With this unique name, Orange Gold pays tribute to the power of the sun and the beautiful sunsets of the South of France.

Vinification & Maturing

Orange Gold is made using an ancient winemaking technique. The white grapes are vinified and fermented in whole bunches, in the same way as red wines. This maceration with the stalks and skins gives a remarkable orange colour with golden reflections and a very singular tannicity. It is an exceptional blend of seven grape varieties, essentially Mediterranean: Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc and Viognier bring volume and Marsanne, Mauzac and Muscat enrich the aromatic complexity of the wine. The perfect mastery of the vinification and the choice of grape varieties make this an orange wine with an unprecedented profile, remarkable finesse and subtlety. Orange Gold reflects the vibrancy, dynamism, minerality and freshness of the South of France. Made from organic grapes and imbued with all the nuances of their terroir, Orange Gold is AB certified.

Tasting Notes

The nose is complex, with an explosion of white flower, candied fruit and white pepper notes. On the palate, a very flattering aromatic freshness, with precise flavours and a beautiful balance to which the structure gives body and spirit. Suave and fine, its texture envelops the palate. The tasting ends with a nice length in the mouth that prolongs the gustatory journey and a sweet bitter touch that stimulates the taste buds.

Food & Wine

With its freshness, light tannins and subtle acidity, Orange Gold goes well with many dishes. It is a wine of character, the perfect companion for aperitifs with friends and cheese boards to share. This remarkable, bright wine also pairs well with spicy food, especially Indian and Asian dishes. Orange Gold should be drunk at 12°C to appreciate all its freshness and minerality. Its aromatic complexity and rich palate will develop in the glass at 14°C.
