The unmistakeable identity of Grans Muralles is thanks to the stony, slate ground (Licorella) of the region, and the grape varieties used to make it. One century after the phyloxera plague the Torres family have begun to recuperate autoctonous grape varieties believed to be extinct, such as Garró and Samsó, using modern viticultural techniques. Together with red Garnacha, Mazuelo and Monastrell they create the unique spirit of this wine.   

Monastrell: A grape that needs a Mediterranean climate for maturation. It produces intense wines with energetic tannins that soften with ageing. 

Garró: A traditional red grape from the Catalan vineyards which is grown in Conca de Barberà, known for its characteristic scent. 

Querol: The discovery of another old vine in September of 1998 in Querol, about 40 km northeast of Vilafranca in the Penedès appellation, made it possible to revive a variety that would eventually be named after the town where it was found. 

Garnacha tinta:The most heavily grown Mediterranean red variety in the world, it produces excellent red and rosé wines which benefit from its greasy and sensual tannin. 

Cariñena: A classical and traditional variety from the Mediterranean vineyards. It produces robust wines with a high alcohol content which are rich in pigment and extract.   

Tasting Notes: Very deep cherry red with purple highlights. Intense, complex aroma that reveals floral notes along with ripe fruit (pomegranate) and green leaves. Well-structured palate and lively acidity. A powerful, nervy wine: long on the finish.   

An ideal accompaniment for typical Mediterranean-style roast and stewed meat dishes made with tomato and pepper sauces or cooked with traditional herbs and spices.
