Overture consists of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the remaining 30% being Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec It reflects the winemaker’s artistry by showcasing the talent of blending five traditional Bordeaux grape varieties and capturing terroir characteristics of the same variety grown in different soils. Since Opus One only uses the finest grapes from their estate for the process of blending their wine, some lots are not chosen for the final blend. They take the unused grapes and barrel them a little longer and blend years together. What this does is create a non-vintage wine that achieves a slightly different complexity than the original Opus One, but for half the price. Side-by-side in a blind taste test some people can’t tell the difference between the two wines.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of bright cherry and red currantas as well as vanilla from th oak. In the mouth we have ripe red and black fruuits and and a firm spine of acidity. The extended barrel aging gives the wine an elegant texture accentuated by round tannins and ground cocoa, cedar and vanilla.
