A member of the Grands Crus de Bordeaux Association, Château Rahoul has an extremely diverse range of terroirs. The history of Château Rahoul began in 1646, when Chevalier Guillaume Rahoul built this pretty Chartreuse and gave it his name. After the French Revolution, the estate passed to the Balguerie family, who were highly influential among the Place de Bordeaux shipowners. In the early 1980s, the remarkable quality of the wines was responsible for its rise among the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. The management of the estate was entrusted to Dourthe Estates in 2007.
Today, the white Graves is among the best of the appellation, while the red is a wine of great refinement and elegance.
For Château Rahoul, sustainability is of great importance to its approach and it has adopted practices that respect nature and humankind. Since the 2018 vintage, Château Rahoul has the Terra Vitis and High Environmental Value (HVE) environmental certifications.
Today the vineyard extends to almost 40 hectares. The sandy-gravel profile of Château Rahoul's soils makes them extremely light. Due to their excellent drainage and their ability to retain the heat at night, they help the grapes ripen slowly, creating prestigious wines, very elegant and with fine tannins.
2018 was a great year for the wines of Château Rahoul. The 2018 Château Rahoul red, is a wine with a fleshy, silky texture and wonderful balance. Aromatic nose with floral notes, liquorice and aniseed. Rounded palate with fine tannins, good acidity and a long finish.
