Vineyard: AOC Pessac-Léognan
Vinification: 45% Merlot, 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot. Pre-fermentation cold maceration. Alcoholic fermentation, with very few manipulations (pumping-over, pigeage) and the malolactic fermentation partially in barrels. Ageing in barrels takes place in an arched underground cellar with air-conditioning for 12-14 months. Cooperage savoir-faire and oak selection are combined when choosing the barrels so that they are best suited to the characteristics and style of Château La Garde wines.
Tasting notes: Very deep, almost black appearance. On the nose its intense and complex forest fruit bouquet of blackberries and rich, dark cherries, accompanied by spicy, smoky notes. Immediately generous, expressive fruit flavours define the wine on the rich and concentrated palate, which is underpinned by delicate tannic structure and lovely smoothness to the intensity. Impressive harmony pervades throughout and culminates in a long, elegant finish.
Paired with: Cooked in the pot and grilled meats with red wine sauces and aged cheeses.
Served at: 16–18°C.
Aging: For the next 8-10 years.
