Vineyard: Cortona DOC. The Syrah vines grow on the slopes just below Cortona in soils that have a good mix of clay and loam and enjoy a warm and dry climate: a perfect terroir to best express their full potential.
Vintage: In 2017, high temperatures and relatively dry climatic conditions prevailed for most of the year. In April, frost hit the vineyards and caused a reduction in yields, without having a negative impact on the quality of the grapes. Light rainfall followed in May, while the summer weather was hot and dry. The grapes were harvested between 10 and 14 September for the production of Bramasole. Undoubtedly, the 2017 growing season highlighted the varietal expression of Syrah, which thrives in these climatic conditions.
Vinification: Upon arrival in the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed. The must was transferred to stainless steel vats and subjected to cold maceration for 3 days before fermentation, which took place at a controlled temperature of around 28 °C. The grapes were then pressed and the fermentation process was started. The grapes remained in contact with the juice for about 15 days. The wine was put into small French oak barrels, both new and second-hand, where malolactic fermentation took place. Bramasole was aged for about 18 months and bottled in the spring of 2019.
Tasting Notes: Deep, intense ruby red colour in appearance. The nose is soft and elegant with aromas of ripe cherries and blackberries combined with notes of spices and liquorice. The palate is rich and balanced. The tannins are well integrated and elegant. The long finish is accompanied by aromas of vanilla and blackberries.
Combined with: Charcuterie, grilled meat such as pork shank, medium-ripened cheeses, saffron risotto.
Enjoy at: 16-18°C.
Ageing: up to 2026
